Snow Hill - Jail - News item after lynching attempt, 1940Snow Hill Jail, Worcester County, Maryland. On February 14, 1940, a white mob broke into this jail and abducted Lillian Blake and her 14-year-old daughter, Martha Blake, who were being held for questioning in connection with the murder of white farmer Harvey Pilchard and the assault of his wife during the search for Arthur Collick, Lillian’s common-law husband. The women were threatened with lynching and driven away from Snow Hill, but Maryland State Police pursued the mob, intercepted it near Stockton, and rescued them.Sep 06, 2026

Manokin - Sudler's ConclusionSudler’s Conclusion, near Manokin in Somerset County, is one of the county’s notable surviving early houses. The original Flemish-bond brick section dates to the early 18th century, with a frame addition added about 1840.
